Engineered Wood Flooring

Engineered wood flooring is a more modern take on wood floor material. This product is made of multiple layers of various types of wood (plys) with a thin layer of finished wood on the surface. Some of the popular finish variations are ‘wire brushed’, ‘oiled wood’ and ‘traditional’.

There are also different ‘looks’ achieved by including a wider or narrower selection of the grade of wood. For example, for a country look, the flooring would include a wider variety of grain colour with more knots. Whereas a more modern look would be similar grain patterns and colours, with less knots.

The disadvantage of engineered wood flooring is that it cannot be refinished many times, since the top layer is very thin. However the numerous advantages include:

  • Many different colours, patterns and textures available
  • Higher moisture resistance
  • Larger plank size options since they resist twisting and moisture really well
  • Small scuffs not as visible on many of the available finishes
  • Easier installation
